The new Aim sucks
AOL has rolled out a brand new AIM. This isn’t the traditional lets-just-add-one-feature update, it is a complete overhaul.
Im going to make this review short and sweet:
Pro:
Triton finally allows users to tab their AIM conversations.
Con:
AOL forces their crappy browser on you.
You cant see the background color of your buddies’ text.
In true AOL fashion AIM installs their browser and opens up all kinds of windows when you start up.
When you download the program you must download a “AOL Installer” which probably load up your computer with stuff like this:
-AND-
But by far, THE WORST part about this program is that it changes your defailt browser to AOL explorer. Words can’t describe how much this pisses me off.
Bottom line: stay clear of AIM Triton until they lighten it up a little. The tabbed feature is nice, but because they added so much stuff to the IM dialog box, the program is very cumbersome. Part of the reason most people used AIM in the first place is becasue it was basic and simple.
If you still want to try your luck download AIM triton here.

Three words: Trillian, Miranda, and Gaim. Never use proprietary IM software again.*
*Okay, so Trillian is commercial. Sue me. It’s got a freeware version I’ve been very happy with.
