Facebook releases an API, and adds badges

admin

Facebook APIFacebook is beginning to realize that “poking” just isn’t as cool as it used to be, and has enlisted the help of others through the implementation on an API.

Whats an API?  For the technical version visit Wikipedia.  But the basic version is that essentially anybody has access to the stuff that makes Facebook tick and can develop third party applications for Facebook.

So far the only application made is FaceBank, a budgeting tracking tool.

Either way, if you are handy with code. head on over to the developer section.  And you can bet I’ll keep you guys abreast of some of the cooler apps.

Badges

Facebook also added the ability to create “badges”.  Just look below your profile picture for a link that says “Create a Profile Badge”.  You will be then taken to this screen:

Facebook Badge

You can create your own using as many elements as you’d like, or you can use template provided.

Here’s mine:

Thanks very much to Vivianne for the tip!  And if your bored, link your badge below.

I’ve been checking the developer ‘forum’ every now and then… I don’t think I’ll try to make anything for awhile…I don’t really have the time…

Thanks for sharing about the badges…I didn’t even notice that…

Hey Blanda, just thought I would share with you that I have just published a module for Joomla users out there who want to put badges in their Joomla CMS based sites. You can get it here: http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,1031/Itemid,35/

[…] For all the people out there with Facebook, an online social site for college and now high school students all across America, it got some new features. CollegeV2 has an extensive write up on it here, but I wanted to add my 2 cents in. […]
