Possible Facebook explotation – putting a hit counter in your notes
The following post is by Eric Negendank. It was his discovery and his alone.
How to add a free and easy hit counter to your Facebook Notes:
This is an easy little trick to add a counter to a Facebook Note. Although this was a lot more powerful when your notes were displayed in full on the front page, it is still offers a fairly good idea of how many people are visiting your links. With the new News Feed options, your note will appear on all of your friend’s home pages, giving them the option to check it out and be counted.
Step 1: Get the tracker image code
If you Google Free Hit Counters you can find a service that will work for you. Just make sure that they offer you a tagged counter. I;d personally suggest SEO Logic’s super easy free counter.
NOTE: If you use SEO Logic’s counter, make sure you choose a unique URL. Think of it as your user name instead of your domain.
Step 2: Create a Note
Write whatever you would like, but be sure to include the HTML code for your tracking image. It should look something like this:
Step 3: Preview/Publish
Preview the post and make sure you can see the counter. If it doesn’t work, go back and make sure the code was copied in its entirety. If it worked, publish it and start tracking your hits!
Bonus Options:
There are many, many other options out there for free hit tracking. Some offer a much wider array of tracking options including unique/repeat counts. Some allow you to view the IPs of your visitors which can be used for tracking how often the same people are viewing your site and what ISP they are using.
