Big Bowl Round-Up & BCS National Championship
On Monday January 8th, 2007, we’ll see two Division I powerhouses take to the field in the BCS National Championship game. The Buckeyes and Troy Smith, this year’s Heismann trophy winner, go up against the Southeastern Conference Champion Florida Gators. The OSU Buckeyes come in at a little bit more than a 7 point favorite. Tune in on Fox for the game at 8pm EST.
For all you non-Buckeye or Gator fans out there, here’s a quick rundown of some of the big bowl games that have happened in the past week:
- The Fiesta Bowl this year was the most exciting game of the college football season. It saw the heavy underdog Boise State squad take on perennial power Oklahoma. Boise State came out on top 43 to 42. If you missed the fantastic finish, you must check out this video clip.
- The Sugar Bowl this year featured Notre Dame and LSU. Notre Dame was overwhelmed by the big plays at the Tigers romped the Fighting Irish. Final score: Notre Dame 14, LSU 41.
- In the Rose Bowl, USC outplayed Michigan on both sides of the ball. The final score was 32-18.
- At the Orange Bowl, Louisville, Champions of the Big East Conference, defeated the ACC’s champ Wake Forest 24-13.
With all the big bowl games (other than the national championship) behind us, the NCAA college football season is fast approaching its end on Monday. If you’re itching to watch a few last college games before it’s too late, there are still two pretty minor bowl games coming up this weekend: The International Bowl featuring Cincinnatti vs. Western Michigan, and the GMAC Bowl featuring Ohio vs. Southern Miss. As for me, an Ohio native, I’ll be rooting on the Buckeyes!
